Playa del Carmen does not have an airport servicing international flights. For that, you can go to the international airports in Cancun, Merida or Cozumel.

However, Playa del Carmen does have an airport servicing domestic flights.

International Airports

Cancun International Airport
Located just outside the city of Cancun, this is a big airport servicing domestic and international flights from major airlines and from private planes and chartered airlines.

The Cancun International Airport ha the following amenities and facilities: duty free shops, a beauty parlor, banks, VIP lounges, convenience stores, a food court, some bars and restaurants, a business center, a video arcade, some tourist information booths, restrooms, vending machine, public phone, car rental agencies, medical services and money exchange stores.

To go to Playa del Carmen, you can take a taxi, rent a car and drive to Playa del Carmen, or take your hotel shuttle or take a bus to Playa. The Riviera bus runs to and from Cancun airport and Playa del Carmen several times a day for a reasonable fare. There is a Riviera counter selling tickets for the bus. The counter is near the exit of the terminal. Catch the bus outside the main arrival hall. The bus will brink you straight to the bus terminal in Playa del Carman (Avenida Juarez and 5th Avenue).

Now, if you miss the Riviera bus direct to Playa del Carmen, do not fret. You can take the bus to downtown Cancun and there take a bus to Playa del Carmen. The last bus of the day leaving for Playa del Carmen departs at 12:30 a.m.

Manuel Crecencio Rejon International Airport (Merida)

The airport is around 7 miles from the city center on the southwestern part of Merida. It is a relatively small airport, with tourist information booths and car rental agencies.

To get to Playa del Carmen, you can take a taxi or ride a bus from the airport.

Cozumel Airport
The Cozumel Airport is just 2 miles north of San Miguel de Cozumel. This airport services both domestic and international flights.

To get to Playa del Carmen, take a taxi from the airport to the ferry dock. There is an hourly trip to Playa, except at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. From the ferry, you can either take the taxi or the tricycle to your hotel.

Playa del Carmen Airport
This is a small airport that caters to domestic flights and trips to Guatemala, Belize, Chichen Itza and other Mayan ruins.

Campeche Ingenerio Alberto Acuna Ongay International Airport
The Campeche International airport is just 4 miles southeast of the city

Campeche airport is located 6 km/4 Miles southeast of Campeche City. This is a small airport which mainly serves flights from Mexico City and Cancun and private planes.

To get from the airport to Playa del Carmen, you can take the bus or taxi.

Airplane Travel Tips

• Some airports hand-check luggage so it is recommended that you arrive at the airport two hours before departure time.
• Lighters are not permitted in checked in luggage, as these are considered dangerous goods. Safety matches (a book) is allowed – while strike anywhere matches are prohibited.
• Avoid bringing anything with a blade on your carry-on luggage. Place them in your checked in luggage instead.
• For departures, be prepared to pay Mexico's mandatory departure tax. This is for both international and domestic flights. Fees vary depending to the airport. Sometimes, the fee is already included in the fare, but to be sure, check your ticket.
• Bring your own snacks (especially beverages) so that you can eat or drink whenever you need to. You may not be attended to immediately.
